Al-Amyn Model School Gulmit, Gojal (a non-profit community-based high school) was established in 1991by the Gulmit Educational and Social Welfare Society (Registered) to improve condition of people through quality education. Today the school has proved itself one of the leading community-based institutions capable of providing conducive learning environment and producing competitive manpower in the area. This reputation attracted students from far-flung areas of Gojal to be the beneficiaries of quality education. Thus far, 197 boys and 167 girls have accomplished their secondary school certificates and are in different prominent educational institute of the country or in professional fields. The school has also trained 132 teachers enabling them to move in further walk of life.

• Community mobilization for construction of school building and investments in education as key priority: The whole community (over 385 households) participated in the construction of the school by providing cash contribution per household to purchase the land, and provided free labor and local material to construction the school building in four phases.
• Forum for education and stakeholders for educational development: the school and society organize on regular basis annual general body, annual parents day and stakeholder forums with other education providers mainly government and AKESP in which issues of quality, access and sustainability of teaching/learning are discussed.
• Act as local teacher training resource centre for other schools in Gojal Tehsil: The school acts as a major teacher resource centre for other private and public schools in the tehsil. It remained a summer training centre for Hunza Educational Resource Project, the Whole School Improvement Program (WSIP) of the Aga Khan University- Institute of Educational Development-IED and also run an indigenous teacher training program.
